The Observer is Dead, Long Live
I've been writing
the San Ramon Observer since January 18, 2002. About six months ago I
decided I didn't want to be a lone wolf watch dog anymore. There were times when I was
at a City Council meeting and looked around, and I was the
only person there not being paid. I've been very
busy teaching online classes over the last two years,
and I didn't have the time or the interest to continue being
the San Ramon Observer.
Embarcadero Publishing, which publishes the Danville Weekly and
Pleasanton Weekly and has several online news and information
websites. Now it's official. In May the San Ramon
Observer will morph into a blog on the new San Ramon Express.
So I shall
continue writing my observations on San Ramon, but I will be
surrounded by real news people. I've been impressed with the quality
of the reporting in the two local weeklies, and even though daily
newspapers are struggling local weeklies are doing well.
The Contra Costa
Times and San Ramon Valley Times are shot (spell it with an i). The new owner fired all of
the seasoned, good reporters and kept Jimmy Olsen and the Cub
Reporters, only there's no Superman to save them from the cliff
these newspapers have fallen off of.
So you will see a
smiling photo of me in my Tilley hat in the new San Ramon Express
starting on May 4, 2009.
I'll fill you in on how I became the Observer (well, I was
bitten by a radioactive spider, oops, that's not it), and where the
Observer will go from here.
